Meet Elsie – one of our lovely clients !

Retaining her independence has always been important to 93 year old Elsie, especially since she lost her husband over 20 years ago.

Elsie has lived near Caerleon in a static home with stunning panoramic views across the River Usk for over 32 years.  In fact she still lives opposite the site of the business she used to run with her husband many moons ago, and next to the beautiful new house that her son and wife have recently built.

Elsie is quite active, still able to drive her car and enjoys the company of her feral cat Tuppence. She wants to stay in the area that she loves, is familiar with, and remain close to her family for support.  Not that Elsie would ever ask for support as she is extremely self sufficient!

Elsie approached Care & Repair after hearing “wonderful things” from many of her friends about the way that Care & Repair had helped them.

Care and Repair Caseworker Sally Adams, visited Elsie to determine how Care and Repair could help Elsie to remain safe and independent in her own home.  As Elsie and her husband both worked in the air force serving their Country during the war, Sally explained they are eligible to apply for grant funding to cover the cost of some works to her home.

Elsie has already had steps and a handrail fitted to provide easier and safer access to both the back and front of her home, and Sally is currently helping Elsie to apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant to install a level access shower, making bathing more accessible and much safer.

Elsie is extremely happy with the work that has been organised to date by Care and Repair, which has enabled her to stay safe and independent in the home that she loves, with the added assurance that the work is completed by qualified professionals and to a high standard.
