Easter Tea Dance Success!

As part of its 10th Anniversary celebrations, Newport Care and Repair hosted a free tea dance for many of its past and present customers in the Gallery at Newport Central Market. Greeted by Newport’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Val Delahay, many of the older people enjoyed a couple of cups of tea and cakes and spent several hours dancing, catching up with old friends and savouring the atmosphere.

Phil Arnold, manager of the Newport Care and Repair agency said, “To help older people to retain their independence, it is really important that we can provide assistance to ensure their homes are warm, safe and comfortable places to live in. We wanted to say thank you to many of our customers for their support over the past 10 years and thought what better way to do it than inviting them to a free tea dance”.

He continued “ Well over 12,000 people have already benefitted our service during the past decade, and it continues to develop thanks to strong partnership working between Newport City Council, Newport Local Health Board and the Seren Group, which hosts the Care and Repair agency here in Newport. Some of the letters we receive from satisfied clients brings you close to tears, where often providing some very simple and inexpensive solutions can make such a difference to their safety and wellbeing, helping to retain their independence for as long as they wish”.

Newport’s market traders kindly donated free raffle prizes and the first prize winner benefitted from a free handyperson service for a day. Phil Arnold added, “What might seem as a small job to many people can often seem like a mountain to climb for someone older, so it’s great to be able to take some of that stress away through the range of services we provide”.
