Care and Repair strengthen their Board

vic_1Newport Care and Repair Agency, an organisation dedicated to helping older people  live safely and securely in their own homes, have unveiled three high-profile Board members, with a vast experience of working with older people, to further strengthen the Agency’s ability to expand it’s services for older people in Newport.

 

Ruth Marks, formerly Wales’ first Older People’s Commissioner has joined the board, which already has a reputation as being one of the strongest Agency boards in Wales, along with Newport Senior Citizen’s Forum Chairperson Shirley Evans and Rhian Giles who works for Newport City Council as an Integrated OT Service Manager.

Commenting on the new appointments, Phil Arnold, Care and Repair Agency Manager said ‘We are delighted to welcome Ruth, Shirley and Rhian to our Board. Between them they have a wealth of invaluable experience, knowledge and challenging ideas, which is absolutely key to shaping the way the Agency can expand its services to help even more older people to live independently in their own homes for as long as they choose”.

Ruth, who led a Statutory Review into older people’s experiences in hospital and her report “Dignified Care” had a major impact on the health service in Wales said of her appointment ‘Care and Repair Newport have a really experienced and committed team of staff who support older people to live in their own homes, safely and independently.  Their service is invaluable and I am delighted to be asked to join the Board to support their work.

I am really keen to look for opportunities to reach more older people by working in partnership across the community’.

Over the last 12 months Newport Care and Repair have helped over 2000 local people to stay in their own homes and, with the recent Welsh Assembly announcement of £4.65m worth of funding for Care and Repair services across Wales, and an additional £2.09m for the Rapid Response Adaptations programme, the Agency is looking forward to helping a lot more people.

Care and Repair is a charitable organisation that provides free services to help people remain living independently, comfortably and safely in their own home. Services include support with home improvements, management of building work and advice on suitable contractors.
