Callum enjoys his stint as Care and Repair Handyman!

Hartridge School Year 10 pupil, Callum Short, recently enjoyed a week’s work experience as Peter “the handyman” Hargreaves’ sidekick.

In order to get the most out of his work experience, 15 year old Callum and his Placement Manager, Phil Arnold, discussed what Callum hoped to gain from his experience and together agreed a set of goals for Callum to achieve.

With objectives set, Callum pulled on his Care and Repair jumper and hit the road with Peter, where he spent the rest of the week out and about in Newport learning many new skills ranging from how to mix cement, build a half step, fix a gate and how to go about fitting a grabrail.

At the end of an exhausting week Callum told us “When I leave school I am hoping to find a job in either building or maintenance, ideally working with people in the community. It was a great and really busy week and I learnt lots about the world of Care and Repair, I am really not looking forward to going back to school on Monday !”
