A little bit about us...

Newport Care & Repair is a service available to homeowners or privately renting tenants, aged over 60, and who live in Newport. We provide a range of advice and practical solutions to help you carry out home improvements, repairs, or adaptations to your home that allow you to live independently.

Our aim is to ensure your home is a safe, warm and comfortable place to live in.

Newport Care & Repair is a Welsh Government backed Home Improvement Agency.

Launched 14 years ago in partnership with Newport Council and the Local Health Board following discussions with Care & Repair Cymru, the national umbrella organisation for agencies in Wales.

From April 2014, the Newport Care & Repair Agency service has been aligned with ‘Derwen’, the new older persons housing service within the Pobl Group. This will help create opportunities for more partnership working to benefit Derwen residents and older people in our area.

Main Aims of Care & Repair

The Agency has enabled over 28,000 older people to live independently in their own homes by advising on, or facilitating, home repairs and adaptations, making homes safe, warm and secure. The service is overseen by the Newport Care & Repair Board which sets the strategic direction for the service, and is represented by all key partners.

The Agency works extremely closely with health, housing, social services, and other third sector organisations, who help ensure the most vulnerable older people can receive timely services which help to maintain independent living. Many people who need help need minor adaptations to their home.

The Advice and Casework Services are also available to older homeowners and privately renting tenants to identify issues with the home environment and how they may be addressed. This includes a review of all housing options open to the client, advice on welfare benefits, help to access grants such as disabled facilities grants, raising of charitable funding, advice on reducing energy consumption, and advice on selection, appointment and monitoring of reputable contractors.
